Steampunk Thermometer

A serendipitous find in a junk shop in Horncastle, this old pressure gauge had a fabulous Patina. Initially I was going to sell it on - but then had an idea! "Steampunk Thermometer".

The scale, marked in PSI would lend itself to displaying room temperature with a mid-point approximately at 25C.

After stripping out the internal "clockwork" pressure mechanism and installing a micro servo, then with the addition of an Arduino Uno micro controller and a bit of coding - Voila!

The video below illustrates the method used to convert air pressure into rotational movement - imagine blowing into one of those annoying party blowers, the air pressure tries to straighten-out the coil. Clever.

Micro Servo installed.

Completed and calibrated gauge.
